Is it true to stay that most people on the outside won’t see Saint Louis as being the place to find a hip hop artist and a fashion designer in one? Well for those who think that statement is true, you’re wrong! Since, 2000 the fashion scene in Saint Louis has really come far with exclusive fashion stores around town, Saint Louis Fashion week getting bigger every year, and from having Nelly’s clothing line Vokal getting recognized in mainstream fashion. But, would Nelly consider himself a rapper and a fashion designer in one? I don’t know, but after doing the math I founded the right answer. William Hump!
After, listening to his second Mixtape called: The Definition of Fresh 102. And seeing his clothing line at varies fashion shows I had to seat down with him to find out more about this Saint Louis-U-City rising fashion designer and hip hop artist.
The Interview
HHB-Who is William Hump?
William Hump- “An 21 year old fashion designer, rapper, music creator, and a college student that’s trying to pursue lifelong goals and to be successful in any and everything he does.”
HHB- How do you feel about the Saint Louis hip-hop scene?
William Hump- “ I believe it can be better then what it is but, it’s like when people get a little success people get big headed…if everybody can become more humble they would become more successful. Everybody needs to keep grinding instead of looking for help…But overall, people in Saint Louis hip hop doing they thing.”
HHB- Do you think Saint Louis shows love to the younger hip hop artist coming out?
William Hump- “ I feel they kind of shy away from certain artist that’s young…it’s hard for someone who never had nothing on the radio or someone who just started rapping to get exposure in Saint Louis…you really got to expose yourself… if you’re not in a certain circle like the people that’s getting rotation on the radio..then, they not gone play your music…So you really got to get noticed, putting music out to get heard…you cannot wait on nobody else or expect them to show love.”
HHB- What’s the concept behind the mixtape?
William Hump- “The same concept behind all my music…just basically, my lifestyle any and everything I go through, any and everything I want to do…nothing fabricated, nothing fake…like, it’s just my lifestyle I live that I rap about on my music.”

HHB- Who’s featured on the mixtape?
William Hump- “Right now on this new one it’s just me and the dude I mess with name Davvy Jones from Hustle Hard Ent., he do my beats and he a rapper also, he dope and he did my single “Bruce Lee” and he on this mixtape, song called “Game time”…it’s his song but he wanted to put it on the mixtape to show love.”
HHB- How long you think its gone take before you’re signed?
William Hump- “ You really can’t put no time-length on it…you feel me…the grind eventually gone payoff…you can’t never let up… you might feel that the Dj’s not playing your music no one’s downloading your music but, you got to keep grinding and work…one of my songs I say, Hard work pays off no day’s off…if something is easy it’s really not worth you having… if you work hard for something…you appreciate it more and people respect you more when they see you out there grinding.”

HHB- What did you and the design team do to get the Eyekon brand noticed?
William Hump- “We just started wearing our own clothes…everybody on the team are trend setters…people saw us wearing a shirt and wanted to get one…we just started wearing our own stuff to push the brand at first.”
